biography

Brian Nelson was born and raised in Northern Minnesota.  He joined the Army after high school, eventually settled in Wamego, KS after 12 years of service.  Music has always been a steady fixture in Brian's life.  He played bass in a garage band in high school and picked around on the guitar while in the service.  While stationed in Texas he was introduced to Americana/Texas country music, this raw, honest music struck home with him and he has been hooked ever since.  Brian tours several states from Texas to Minnesota playing the honest songs he has written.  These songs are inspired by his life experiences, as well as, those of his friends and family

Blowing in the Dust
© Lyrics by Brian Nelson and Ken Mathiesen August 2013

V1
Just read it in our small town paper
you are getting married later this month
And it hit me, your last name could've been mine
Got me thinking that could have been us

C
there was a time I called you mine
you sat next to me in my truck
drinking that homemade wine
doing our best to get stuck
now those days are like the sands of time
they are blowing with the dust

V2
I do recall a long summer that stretched into fall
I was so proud you were mine I thought I had it all
but I had to leave and our love didn't grow stronger
time just grew longer, until it was nothing at all

C
there was a time I called you mine
you sat next to me in my truck
drinking anything we could find
we loved each other so much
now those days are the sands of time
they are blowing with the dust

Bridge
someday when your home alone with a paper in your lap
you see my name where I saw yours and it takes you back

C
there was a time I called you mine
you sat next to me in my truck
drinking anything we could find
we loved each other so much
now those days are the sands of time
they are blowing with the dust

Outro
Those days are like the sands of time they are blowing with the dust
Those days are like the sands of time they are blowing with the dust

She Lies
© Brian Nelson December 2014

She painted me into a corner, ya she boxed me in good
I’m facing decisions and choices I never thought I would
Don’t know where she thought this would lead
When she chose the bottle over her family

And she lies
She looks in the mirror and she cries
Sayin she’ll get better
And she lies
On the floor in the dark
She asks God to save her but he won’t listen when she lies

She drinks in the dark, when she’s all alone
Hides her crimes from those in the next room
Some are just numb to her tricks and her lies
Little one’s hurt the most when they see her with their eyes

And she lies
She looks in the mirror and she cries
Sayin she’ll get better
And she lies
On the floor in the dark
She asks God to save her but he won’t listen when she lies

No one suspected her, No one believes it’s true
But the whiskey on her breath convicts her
She had us all fooled
She threw it all away

And she lies
She looks in the mirror and she cries
Sayin she’ll get better
And she lies
On the floor in the dark
She asked God to save her

And she lies
She looks in the mirror and she cries
Sayin she’ll get better
And she lies
On the floor in the dark
She asks God to save her but he won’t listen when she lies
She asks God to save her but he won’t listen when she lies
